Congratulations to SWEAH PhD Owasim Akram for recieving both funding and a Postdoctoral Grant!

Owasim Akram has been awarded a funding of SEK 873 803 by the Expert Group of Aid Studies/Expertgruppen för biståndsanalys (EBA). It has been proposed in partnership with Örebro University, Lund University and University of Bath in the UK.

He is the lead researcher in this project. This project will commence immediately after his defence (which will occur in late December this year). This project will explore the process of marginalization of the people living in extreme poor conditions.

International Postdoctoral Grant within Development Research

Owasim Akram has also been awarded the International Postdoctoral Grant within Development Research by the Swedish Research Council (VR). The postdoc will allow him an international experience engaging three institutions from Sweden, Bangladesh and the UK. The grant Amount is SEK 3,6 millions.

Owasim will start this postdoc as soon as he finish the EBA study. The postdoc will have a duration of 36 months of which 18 months he will be based in the UK (University of Bath), 12 months in Bangladesh (Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies) and 6 months in Sweden (Örebro University). The postdoc will focus on ‘epistemic injustice’ prevailing in the field of development, challenging ‘the way of knowing’ the severe poor (targeting the ethnic minority, disabled and older persons) and ‘the way of doing’ development with them.
